Shapes
We cover how to create and modify objects such as structures, paved areas, and garden areas in Permiehub.
What are Shapes?
Objects such as property boundaries, structures, paved areas, and garden areas are considered shapes.
Creating Shapes
We recommend starting by watching this video, which gives you a quick overview of how to draw structures using Angled Rectangle and Freeform modes:
- Select a tool, such as Dwelling, from the toolbox.
- Some tools offer a choice between Freeform drawing or Angled Rectangle.
- Click on the canvas to create the first point.
- Click at another point on the canvas to create a boundary segment; repeat to draw the entire shape. Close the shape by clicking on the first point.
TIP
When drawing, use the Magnet Icon in the bottom toolbar to snap to 90° angles. Alternatively, hold the Ctrl key while moving your cursor.
Modifying Shapes
Once an object such as a structure is created, there are several ways to subsequently modify it.
We recommend starting by watching this video, which gives you a quick overview of what is possible:
Firstly, the Select and Transform tool allows you to:
- Move the object by dragging it with the left mouse button or touchscreen.
- Rotate the object using the rotate button. Simply press the rotate button, which is shown underneath the selected object, and move your cursor to rotate it.
- Resize the object by pressing one of the small squares in the corners of the selection rectangle and moving your cursor to scale it. When holding Ctrl, the aspect ratio lock will temporarily be unlocked.
- Adjust individual segments by dragging the bar in the middle of the segment.
Secondly, the Edit Shape tool allows you to:
- Move individual nodes by simply dragging a node. Each node of the shape is visualised by a small square at each corner.
- Create new nodes by clicking on one of the line segments. You can immediately move the newly created node by dragging it.
- Create curves by dragging the small circular button next to the corner. The further you drag it, the more curved the corner becomes. To remove the curve, drag the control point back to the original location.
Modifying Shapes Using Your Keyboard
You can also use the arrow keys ↑ ↓ → ← to move the object. Shift+↑ moves the object a larger distance.
You can also use [ and ] to rotate the object by 15° with each press. Use Shift+[ to rotate by 90° and Ctrl+[ to fine-tune the angle.
